Alec Kyriakides

Former Head of Product Quality, Safety & Supplier Performance, Sainsbury’s

Driven by a passion for improving food safety management, Alec has a wealth of experience in the food industry, having held a number of senior technical and quality assurance roles. As the former Head of Product Quality, Safety & Supplier Performance at Sainsbury’s, Alec was responsible for the safety and quality management framework for Sainsbury’s products and suppliers. He is a member of a number of industry and government boards and committees and is the Chair of BRCGS's International Advisory Board. He is the author of several books on food borne pathogens and their control and is now an Independent Food Safety Consultant advising food businesses ranging from startups to multinational organisations.


Hugh Mowat

Technical & Compliance Director at Morrisons

Hugh has worked in the food industry for over 30 years, his first job came from an advert in the back of Farmers Weekly magazine and was driving a tractor! For the last 25 years Hugh has worked for two different supermarkets where he benefited from the experience of visiting suppliers all over the world, and he has been on the Board of several Industry Bodies. More recently Hugh has been driving compliance in thousands of retail and food production sites across a range of topics including: Food Safety, Product Quality, Food Integrity, Trading Standards, Property Governance and Health & Safety. Hugh is passionate about life long learning and helping others grow.


Maddy Wilson

Director of Own Brand, Waitrose & Partners

Following on from her previous role as Head of Quality, Regulatory and Technical, Maddy is now the Director of Own Brand at Waitrose & Partners. During her impressive career, she has amassed a staggering amount of experience and expertise within the food production industry. A paragon of innovation and leadership, Maddy offers a unique and informed perspective on the challenges and opportunities faced by the teams operating within this industry.


Lalaina Randriamanantsoa

Senior Technical Manager, Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI)

As the Senior Technical Manager for GFSI, Lalaina is a trusted expert in food safety and consumer protection. In her role she focuses on benchmarking and harmonisation activities – engaging key stakeholders to deliver safe food on a global level. As a driving force behind positive change across the industry, Lalaina is perfectly positioned to deliver her talk on Innovation in Food Safety Management Systems and Competency.


Rob Artley

QEHS Director – UK at Arla Foods.

With over a decade of experience at Britain’s largest producer of dairy products, Rob is now the company’s Quality, Food Safety, Environmental and Occupational Safety Director. After so many years working for a household name, it is no surprise that Rob has an extensive skill set backed up with invaluable industry know-how. Although it’s hard to pick just one, Rob’s specialty is Food Safety Culture, and this is a topic he will be addressing during the FSI Conference.


Mick West

Global Director, Quality Systems at Kerry

With a wealth of experience in the Food & Beverage Industry, Mick’s 18 years with Kerry has seen him responsible for Food Safety, Quality, Technical and Continuous Improvement in various site, regional, and global roles. His current role is leading Food Safety & Quality Systems at a global level. With a passion for Food Safety & Quality Systems, he has a Microbiological PhD from The University of Liverpool.


Rebecca Sudworth

Director of Policy at Food Standards Agency

After more than a decade as a senior civil servant working at the heart of government, Rebecca moved to the not for profit sector and joined Peabody (London’s best-known and best-loved housing association) as Director of Strategy and Communications. After a spell in Higher Education as Director of Strategy, Planning and Performance at City, University of London, she returned to the civil service in 2019 as Director of Policy at the Food Standards Agency. At the FSA her everyday focus is to make sure that the food on our plates is safe, and what it says it is. Rebecca leads a directorate of highly skilled professionals with an empowering and supportive working culture.


John Figgins

Senior Technical Manager, BRCGS

John has over 35 years of experience in food safety, authenticity, quality, and legality; covering everything from auditing and standards to laboratory testing and allergen management. In his previous role as Product Safety Manager for Sainsbury’s Supermarkets, he was responsible for the prevention of food contaminants, procedures to ensure the authenticity of products, allergen policy, and the management of allergens within the supply chain. After his time at Sainsbury’s, John went on to become a Standard Manager for two BRCGS Global Standards - Food Safety and Agents & Brokers. He is now the Senior Technical Manager at BRCGS.


Laura Luque-Carey

Director at Food Safety Excellence Ltd

With over 20 years’ experience in food manufactory and working on behalf of retailers, Laura has spent the last 12 years of her career working alongside Katie Satterthwaite as a Factory Standards Manager at M&S before starting their own food safety consultant business, Food Safety Excellence. Also working as a lead for M&S’s Graduate Hygiene Training Programme, Laura has a wealth of practical advice and tips to share with hygiene personnel at every level.


Katie Satterthwaite

Director at Food Safety Excellence Ltd

As a Chartered Environmental Health Practitioner, Katie has extensive operational and strategic food hygiene auditing experience within the public and private sectors, and is a recognised hygiene expert. She is highly experienced at working collaboratively in-country to upskill suppliers and find realistic solutions to achieve compliance with exacting standards. In her previous role as Factory Standards Manager for Marks & Spencer, Katie was responsible for writing and upholding Food Safety, Integrity and Animal Welfare standards for the manufacturing of foods within the worldwide M&S supply base, as well as writing and contract-managing the food safety inspection of UK stores and depots.


Reineke van Riemsdijk

Technical Quality Manager & Sustainability Lead at Nestlé Nespresso S.A

Reineke is a pragmatic and results-driven professional with 15+ years of experience in sustainability, auditing, quality, and safety management in the food industry as well as retail. She excels in developing and implementing a robust foundation, ensuring compliance with regulations and industry best practices. Reineke is passionate about building relationships and empowering individuals to reach their full potential at all levels, from shop floor to Chief Executive. She is determined to increase productivity and customer satisfaction.


Denis Treacy

Former Chief Officer for Safety and Quality, Pladis Global

Denis Treacy has over 40 years' experience in FMCG roles, with the last 5 years as Global President of Safety, Quality, Security & Environment for Pladis Global, a $5bn Food Snacking leader, with 34 manufacturing sites across 13 countries, 26,000 employees and 4bn consumers. After 10 years in scientific roles, he spent the next 30 years in leadership, focused on safeguarding and governance of people, brands, assets and business integrity.  Now with his own consulting company, Culture Compass, Denis is a recognised Food Industry Leader, with a proven record of step changing safety, food safety and quality performance and leading business continuity and crisis management teams across global businesses, through energising, collaborative and motivational leadership.


Simon Flanagan

Research Fellow - Global Food Safety, Mondelēz International

Simon is a Research Fellow and food allergen subject matter expert for Mondelez International based in the UK. Since 2005 Simon has been a key advisor to the Cadbury and more latterly Kraft / Mondelēz International business on allergen control and responsible for developing policy and training. In 2016 Simon became an extended member of the Food Safety Team and is currently the Global Lead for Food Allergens and Food Allergy advising the business on both proactive allergen strategy and reactive lead for allergen incidents. Simon is affiliated with numerous professional bodies, industry groups and technical committees (ILSI Europe, FDF, BRC, EFSA, FSA, FARRP, GMA) and has published several articles in peer reviewed journals. He was also principal editor for the ‘Handbook of Food Allergen Detection and Control’. He is currently chair of the ILSI Europe Food Allergy Task Force.


Helen Sisson

Group Technical Director, 2 Sisters Food Group

Helen has been in the food industry for over 30 years previously working for companies such as Greencore, Sutherlands, Hazelwood Foods and prior to this within the dairy sector. She joined Two Sisters Food Group in January 2019 as Group Technical Director where she leads the Technical, Health & Safety, Sustainability and Agriculture functions. In this role Helen directs the strategy and governance for each of the functions. Helen was directly involved in the establishment of the Food Industry Intelligence Network (FIIN), of which she is a Director and Co-Chair. She also currently sits on several external panels, including membership of the BRCGS International Advisory Board, Modern Slavery Intelligence Network Board and IGD Technical Leadership Forum. Helen has served as a Trustee of the Food redistribution charity, FareShare and as a Non-Executive Director of Campden BRI.


Dr Stephan Speidel

Scientific Advisor at HyServe GmbH

Dr. Stephan Speidel, with a distinguished career that spans over four decades, stands at the forefront of innovation as the founder and senior advisor of Hyserve. Before laying the foundations of Hyserve in 2002, Stephan honed his expertise in international roles within the Big Pharma sector, an experience that endowed him with a broad perspective and deep understanding of global health and safety standards. Notably, his doctoral studies were characterized by establishing pivotal connections with Japanese research institutions, a testament to his commitment to fostering international scientific collaboration. Today, as a recognized industry expert, Stephan's influence extends beyond Hyserve. His profound insights and visionary leadership have been instrumental in steering Hyserve's focus towards pioneering solutions in hygiene management and quality control, firmly positioning the company as a beacon of innovation in the field.


Gabriel Linder

Managing Director at HyServe GmbH and Conscio Executive Board Member

With an extensive background in the Auditing, Testing and Inspection Industry, Gabriel has devoted nearly two decades to enhancing food safety and quality management systems. Serving as the former General Manager of Eurofins Global Control, he spearheaded initiatives to ensure the integrity of global supply chains. His leadership in the role involved direct oversight of quality management processes, ensuring clients adherence to international standards. Gabriel is actively involved in various industry-related boards and committees - such as Conscio Board of Directors - contributing his expertise to the advancement of food safety protocols. He is recognized for his significant contributions to the field, including authoring research on methodologies for improving food safety standards. Currently, Gabriel leads the HyServe team as it continues to grow and innovate in hygiene monitoring and food safety.


Debbie Barnes

Director of Central Technical Operations at Sainsbury’s

Debbie Barnes is the Director of Central Technical Operations at Sainsbury’s and responsible for the governance, reporting and policy development that ensures the business can actively manage the quality, safety and legal credentials of 1000s products. Debbie leads the development and delivery of the Sainsbury’s Product and Supplier assurance framework and the business approach to Incident Management, Food Fraud and Allergens. Debbie has worked at Sainsbury’s for 15 years across a variety of Fresh and Grocery Technical roles and has been a member of the Sainsbury’s Senior Technical Leadership team since April 2022.
